APM Super ED 100-800
The APM 100-800 Super ED Triplet is a timeless classic. It is without doubt the world’s highest performance Apochromatic Refractor currently available. Despite being made to our minimum 95% Strehl standard, production lens cells typically exceed this figure. 98%+ is not uncommon! Whatever the quality, you will enjoy the most colour free, extraordinarily high contrast viewing and imaging. This most original of designs by Thomas Back is surely never to be surpassed
Famously an optical tester once said of the 100/800,‘whoever has such an APO should never be separated from it’. Should you be lucky enough to experience the 100/800, you will be treated to Lunar and Planetary views like no other. With complimentary high performance eyepieces such as our TMB Supermonocentrics you will experience the finest of details and the richest of colours.
We have tested the 100/800 at magnifications greater than 400x with no visible loss of colour correction. It is a superb instrument.
Imaging accessories for the 100-800 include a 2.5” field flattener and a special medium format flattener both of which maintain the focal length. There is also a dedicated Reducer designed by Massimo Riccardi. This changes focal length by a factor of x0.75, resulting in a 600mm focal length and fast f6 aperture.
Focuser options for the 100-800 are the APM 2.5” or 3” focusers or the Starlight Instruments Feathertouch focusers from 2.5 to 3.5”.
If you seek the best, then seek out the APM 100/800. You will be rewarded with a quality of image you would never have thought possible.
Some examples of the outstanding optical performance achieved by the 100/800.
